But the bosses are great and they wanted me to come back to the main game. ![]() Which can make the game tedious and boring at times. For example you need to switch characters while playing but only certain kongs can do certain things making you go back to the tag barrel every time you need to do something new. I think this because the game has lots of things to do but I think those tasks are just not all that fun. But OK I think this game is good but not 10/10 good. OK I think this game is good but not 10/10 good. I love this game and I highly recommend it … Expand It's full of comedic moments which makes this game a blast to play throught. A lot of people said it's a collectathon and it wasn't enjoyable, as someone who likes exploring, I didn't mind, I actually really enjoyed it and I love the variety of characters, you have 5 different characters with great personnalities, that's the game's greatest strenght it's personnality. The story is like a normal donkey kong game, the villain is back so you are going to beat bosses until you meet the final boss, it's simple but funny enough. If you're absolutely dead-set on Donkey Kong 64, try to find the guy who made this or learn how it works. One of my favourite 3D platformers, I grew up with donkey kong so being able to play a game like this was truly magical. Both Zelda games, Mario, The Banjo Games, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark and Diddy Kong Racing all have great modding tools available where you could accomplish something like this. I don't mean to be harsh, just that you'd be better off looking at games that already have development kits. In the past 2.5 years we're finally at the point where we can make a mod like the one you're describing.Įven with a toolset already developed that featured everything you wanted and a team as dedicated as you, it'd probably take 6 months. About a year ago we got leaks of the source code that show how nearly each function works. I'd say I myself spend about 30 hours a week on average working on the toolkit or other research around the game. It took about a year, with detailed notes from previous modders and 15+ years of experience modding other games, to get the first custom level imported with my own written toolset. I'm the main developer of the toolset for modding Mario Kart 64, which is very recently developed. The TL:DR is that your goals are unrealistic. I don't see anything out there for Donkey Kong 64 modding tools. I wanna see how much I can push the system since ROM size shouldn't be relevant at this point. n64 can be to where I can push the limits of OG hardware on an Everdrive. I also want to know what can be the max size of the final executable. I need some assistance on getting started with hacking the original rom resources and how to develop new 3D assets. I plan on doing this in my spare time and hope to get it done within 6 months committing to 15-20 hours a week on it. Just scripting, texturing and remodeling. I think it'll be doable within a reasonable amount of time since there are no V.O. I want it to look professional and properly shaded (I see lots of mods and rewrites that look like shit/unshaded). I would be doing a complete overhaul to the game. Make it more modernized and less static/linear/repeatitive in the experience. I am looking to rewrite the narrative of Donkey Kong 64. ![]() If anyone is interested in teaming up with me on this project, please comment.
